Summer on the route, coconuts included.

June brought the sun out, and the tour changed with it, the way a living route should. The biggest sign of the season: coconuts, opened fresh and drunk straight from the shell somewhere between stops, which might be the single most photographed moment of the month.
The press at Pure Cane barely stopped either. On a warm afternoon, a cold glass of fresh sugarcane juice after the smoke and pepper of the suya grill does something words do not quite cover. You will have to taste the transition yourself.
Summer suits this neighbourhood. Rye Lane moves at full colour, music carries further down the street, and the walk between tastings turns into part of the meal rather than the gap between courses. Groups lingered longer at every stop, which we encourage; the tour runs from 1pm to 5pm, and we have never once been in a hurry.
The warm-weather editions also brought a lovely mix of guests: solo travellers who left with dinner plans, families showing visiting relatives around, and more than a few locals who admitted they had walked past these kitchens for years without knowing what was inside. That last group always leaves with the longest list of places to come back to.
